Where a member wishes to leave one club and join another
- The member (or their parent or guardian - if the member is under 18 years of age) writes to their existing club requesting a Letter of Release.
- If the member owes no fees, holds no club property and has no complaint against them then the club must issue a Letter of Release within 14 days.
- The member presents the Letter of Release and a written request (sign by a parent if the member is under 18 years of age) to the new club.
- The new club forwards to Swim Ireland:
- The Letter of Acceptance (quoting the members Swim Ireland membership number)
- The Letter of Application to the new club.
- a Letter of Release from the former club and
- a Transfer Fee of €6 to Swim Ireland.
- Transfers are automatically in force within 7 clear days of their receipt by the Swim Ireland office.
- Where the member's original club did not affiliate in the previous 24 months and the member is not in debt to that club, a Letter of Release is not required and there will be no transfer fee. In this case, the member is free to take part in relay events immediately
- For the purpose of Relay events, a swimmer MAY NOT compete for the Club to which they have transferred within three calendar months of the completion of the transfer in accordance with the procedure set out above.
First Claim
- A member may be a member of more than one Club. But a member who is a member of more than one Club can only compete in Open Competition for the Club with whom they first registered as a member of Swim Ireland. If they wish to compete in Open Competition for any other Club they must transfer to that Club in accordance with the Transfer Rule.
- A member may take part in swimming competitions for one club and in another discipline's events (e.g. water polo) for another club. However Swim Ireland must first be informed of the member's membership of the other club(s) before the member competes in a second discipline's events.
- Students enrolled in a University or School become First Claim members for their University or School except when a swimmer's University or School and Club are competing in the same Regional or National competition, point 1 above will apply.
