Clare Cryan and Jake Passmore had a brilliant sixth place finish in the Mixed 3M Synchro Final. The duo, making their international debut in the event scored 259.95 points on their first outing, top scoring with their middle of five dives, a forward 2 ½ somersaults, 1 twist for 59.40 points.
The result is even more impressive given the pair only practised together for the first-time last week. Cryan commented ‘It was really good, it’s always a nice competition to do the mixed synchro because it’s got a bit of a fun feeling to it and it’s nicer that you’re doing it with someone’.
Making his senior international debut, Passmore added ‘I really enjoyed the experience, it makes it much nicer doing a fun competition before the serious ones tomorrow (3M) and on Tuesday (1M)’.
Passmore returns to the pool tomorrow for the preliminaries of the Men’s 3M Springboard while Cryan is back on the boards on Sunday for the Women’s 3M Springboard.
In the Platform (10m) Final Ciara McGing increased her score and ranking from this morning’s preliminaries finishing sixth with 280.10 points, she had progressed in eleventh place on 254.65 points.
The 22-year-old scored her highest points of 66.70 on her fourth dive, a back 2 ½ somersaults, almost 20 points higher than this morning’s score.
McGing also secured her highest ever European ranking, having finished ninth at the 2022 European Championships. Speaking after the Final she said, ‘I’m feeling really good, it was a really good steady performance again, better than this morning and to be honest with you, what I needed out of this competition was a confidence boost, I haven’t had the best season, so I just needed to put something down on the map and put myself in a good place’.
Next up for McGing is the World Championships in July in Japan, where 12 Paris 2024 places are on offer in the Platform event.
