Jake Passmore is through to a third diving final having advanced from this morning’s 1M Springboard Preliminaries. Passmore has already competed in Mixed 3M Springboard and Individual 3M Springboard Finals at these Games.
As a non-Olympic event, the 1M Springboard is an opportunity for Passmore to test some new skills and increase degrees of difficulty. The 18-year-old did just that this morning, completing six dives ranging from 3.0 to 3.6 difficulty, his highest scores coming for a forward 2 ½ somersault, twist (3.2) and forward 3 ½ somersaults (3.3) with each receiving 62.40 points.
A mistake on his sixth and hardest dive, a forward 2 ½ somersaults, 2 twists (3.6) cost Passmore points, but he had done enough to secure eleventh overall on 326.70 points and a place in the final.
Speaking after the preliminaries Passmore said ‘I’m happy with my performance today, however there is still room for improvement. Two individual competitions and two finals is amazing for me, and I look forward to doing it again in the final and hopefully getting those hard dives and the scores I know I can get.’
