Jake Passmore returned to the world stage on day five of the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, competing in the 3m Springboard Preliminaries in the early hours of the morning.

The 18-year-old, who is making his World Championships debut, scored a total of 319.65 points to finish in 45th place in this morning’s preliminaries, Passmore’s highest scored came from his first dive, a forward two and a half somersaults, one twist, scoring 63 points.

Speaking after his event, Passmore said: A bit of a disappointing end to what has been a very good season. There’s still a lot I can take away from this as it is valuable experience gained for me. It was difficult competing in such a long competition however again it gives me experience to do it again more successfully in the future”.

The 3m Springboard Prelims featured sixty-eight divers, all of whom were in action over a gruelling five hours and included a host of experienced competitors, including Olympic medallists Zongyuan Wang of China and Daniel Goodfellow of Great Britain. The fiercely contested competition saw just eighteen progressing to the semi-final, from there the top twelve advance to the final and secure places for Paris 2024.

Next up for Ireland is Clare Cryan in the 3m Springboard Preliminaries tomorrow morning at 1am (IRE).

Jake Passmore will return to action on Saturday for the Mixed 3M Synchro Final, competing alongside teammate, Clare Cryan.
