Clare Cryan and Jake Passmore completed Team Ireland’s involvement in diving at the World Aquatics Championships with an 15th place finish in the Mixed 3M Synchro (non-Olympic event).

The pair, competing together for only the second time, scored 237.18 points. Cryan and Passmore started well and were in second position after the first two dives, which are required dives for all competitors. Their highest scores came in their third and fourth dives, with both scoring 50.40.

Speaking at the conclusion of the Diving competition, National Diving Head Coach Damian Ball said ‘We leave Japan with our highest ever world ranking position in a women’s 3m springboard event and have given our youngest divers some really valuable experience competing at a World level. We didn’t gain our Olympic qualification spots on this occasion, but we’re not a million miles away.

There’s a few things to work on back at home and I know every member of this team will be fully focused and motivated on making those improvements.  The 2024 Worlds in Doha is only 6 months away and we can look positively towards those championships.’

The World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka was the second of three opportunities for Irish divers to secure Olympic places, with the next and final opportunity being the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar in February 2024.
