As preparations start to gear up for the open water season ahead, we are excited to update you on some key areas of development over the past few weeks.
Open Water Event License Application Process Open
The open water event license application process is now open for clubs to register their events for the upcoming open water season. As in the past few years clubs have been required to submit an online application, which includes the inclusion of an event and safety plan. Link to the form can be found below.
The following form must be completed by any club who is organising an open water event under the auspices of Swim Ireland and requires insurance coverage. The form must be completed in full.
Swim Ireland Support
We have also received requests from clubs to further understand how Swim Ireland can support their club should they decide to host an open water event on the Swim Ireland Open Water Series Calendar. To provide some detailed information in this regard we have prepared a club information document.
Event and Safety Plan Template
We have reviewed our event and safety plan template and have updated it to provide an easy to use template for clubs. Having discussed this with our insurance providers and other stakeholders this is in line with best practice.
Please see attached to this email a new event and safety plan for clubs hosting open water swims. This event plan must be used when submitting an application through the online event license application.
Swim Ireland Open Water Technical Delegate
Swim Ireland is pleased to announce that NEW in 2025 we will be introducing the role of Open Water Technical Delegate. The Technical Delegate will liaise with the organising club regarding their event plan, attend on the day to complete pre/post paperwork and to approve the running of the event.
If you have experience in managing and delivering open water events, excited to support the delivery of the Swim Ireland National Open Water Series and would like to be considered for this role, please submit your expression of interest through the online form below. We are aiming to have a panel of 10-12 people from around the country undertaking this role.
As part of the introduction of this role, Swim Ireland will be delivering a detailed training course for all selected candidates.
We are also working on more resources, templates and event safety training courses which we will provide a further update in the coming weeks.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss any of the above, please contact Adam Cox (adamcox@swimireland.ie)
