Swim Ireland Teachers will introduce, develop and consolidate the eight Core Aquatic Skills.

These skills are made up of Entries and Exits, Submersion and Aquatic Breathing, Rotation, Floatation, Streamlining, Sculling, Movement and Propulsion and Co-ordination and Balance, and will lay the foundation for the development of stroke technique.

Swimming Teachers will develop the four swimming strokes and create opportunities to ensure a lifetime of safety in the water for all.

Swim Ireland Coaches will build on the knowledge and skills provided during swimming lessons.

Coaching courses will include further cultivating and refining performance in the pool.

This includes non-competitive, competitive and elite performance in line with Long Term Athlete Development.

Water Polo Coaches will build their understanding of the game and develop the skills needed to effectively support players.

Courses will focus on preparing, delivering and concluding safe, engaging training sessions, while reinforcing the fundamentals of water polo.

This includes developing basic and sport-specific coaching skills, promoting player and coach development, and maintaining good practice in coaching ethics, health and safety.

Diving Coaches will develop the skills, confidence and independence needed to plan, deliver and evaluate their own diving sessions.

Courses will focus on the key roles and responsibilities of a diving coach, including nutrition, hydration and biomechanical principles, alongside the physical and mental qualities required of skilled divers.

This includes developing effective session planning, management and communication skills, using a range of coaching methods to meet diver needs, and applying motivational techniques to support both divers and other coaches.

Open Water Coaches will build on their existing coaching experience to plan, deliver and evaluate a series of open water training sessions.

Courses will focus on understanding the roles and responsibilities of coaching in open water environments, alongside the effective use of different types of equipment and skills associated with open water swimming.

This includes exploring opportunities available to open water swimmers, developing strong session planning and management skills, and ensuring safe, high-quality coaching practice.

Safeguarding Level 1
This course provides participants with an understanding of a child-centred environment in sport whilst also setting out the statutory guidance for responding to and reporting concerns of abuse. This course is mandatory for all positions involved with young people, teachers, coaches, officials, team managers, CCOs, volunteers and committee members.

Safeguarding Level 2
This course supports Club Children’s Officers by providing skills and information needed to carry out their role within their club. This course will enhance communication skills and the Club Children’s Officer will take away an action plan for the club to ensure the implementation of best practice. This course is mandatory for Club Children’s Officers.

Safeguarding Level 3
This course provides the Designated Liaison Person (Club Children’s Officer) with the knowledge and understanding of statutory guidance. The legislation relevant to each jurisdiction is covered to ensure a clear understanding of reporting procedures. This course is mandatory for Designated Liaison Persons (Club Children’s Officers).

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is an essential element of being a successful swimming Teacher or Coach. It is vital to keep up to date with the most current practices and thinking in relation to swimming and aquatics and mandatory for holding a Register for Aquatic Professionals (RAP) License.

CPD helps with career progression and advancement, broadening Teachers’ and Coaches’ knowledge and equipping them with the skills to specialise in specific areas.

It also provides confidence and credibility by ensuring the professional standard of Swim Ireland qualifications are at a consistently high level.

Officials
Courses suitable for officiating in swimming or water polo. Focuses on rules, procedures, fair play, and ensuring competitions run safely and efficiently.
