This is an exciting opportunity to join the Participation Team as Swim Ireland embarks on a new 4-year strategy. The Participation Team are responsible for providing participation opportunities and solutions across Ireland for people to swim regardless of their age, ability, background, or interest. Infrastructure has been included in the Swim Ireland strategy as a core pillar, and operating Sean McDermott Street Swimming Pool plays an important role in supporting more people to engage with aquatics within the Dublin 1 and surrounding areas. This initiative is in partnership with Dublin City Council.

Role and Reporting Structure

The Pool Operations Manager will report to the Head of Participation and will have responsibility for running the day to day operations of the pool to agreed standards and targets to include recruiting and managing a team of full-time and part-time staff within Sean McDermott Street.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Responsibilities for the Pool Operations Manager include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage targets, budgeting, forecasting, stock control, payroll, and credit control.
  • Ensure high standards of health and safety compliance, water quality and follow industry best practices in relation to cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Promote and deliver a high standard of customer service.
  • Recruit, train and manage a workforce of duty managers, swimming teachers, lifeguards, receptionists, to include staff rostering.
  • Deliver a successful Swim Ireland Aquatics Academy programme, with support from Swim Ireland Education Partnership Manager.
  • Work with Swim Ireland Communications team to manage marketing, social media, and promotion of Sean McDermott Street Swimming Pool.
  • Develop and regularly review a weekly pool timetable, to include public swims, Swim Ireland Aquatics Academy, club, school, and group bookings, etc.
  • Establish a new Swim Ireland Club
  • In conjunction with Get Dublin City Swimming Officer, develop and promote opportunities within the local area and hard to reach groups to increase participation rates in aquatic activities.
  • Work with Swim Ireland Education team to run regular Swimming Teacher and Lifeguard courses.
  • Prepare monthly financial and statistical reports for Finance Director.

Stakeholders

The Pool Operations Manager will be responsible for building and maintain working relationships with key stakeholders including:

  • Dublin City Council
  • Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership
  • Northeast Inner-City Taskforce
  • Local Community Groups, Schools, and Clubs
  • Swim Ireland Clubs

Qualification and Skills

  • Previous experience in a similar role is essential.
  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of revenue generation, cost control and the achievement of targets.
  • Pool plant management experience and qualifications are an advantage but not essential, training will be provided.
  • Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification.
  • Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
  • Eligible to work in Ireland on a full-time basis.
  • Excellent working knowledge of IT and software packages including MSOffice, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
