How we do it

Swimmin' Women Midlife Programme

The Swimmin’ Women Midlife programme is delivered annually within indoor and outdoor (heated) swimming pools across Ireland. Programmes run at various times throughout the year and are delivered by Swim Ireland in collaboration with Local Sports Partnerships.

This September, Swim Ireland is collaborating with the Irish Heart Foundation on their “Her Heart Matters Campaign”, a campaign aimed at increasing the awareness of the risk of heart disease and stroke in women and the fact that this risk increases as women enter menopause.

Information on understanding heart disease risks, warning signs and how to protect your heart, will be provided to all Swimmin’ Women participants this September! Plus the Irish Heart Foundation are offering access to a FREE online webinar centred around the Her Heart Matters campaign.

The Swimmin’ Women (SW) Midlife programme encourages and empowers mid-life females to participate in aquatic sports. The programme provides women with a fun opportunity to experience the benefits of the water, understanding how aquatic activities can support you throughout the life cycle, while bringing like minded women together for some fun!

The programme includes a specific 6–12 week aqua aerobics programme with 1-2 sessions per week, designed by Irish Chartered physiotherapists and Swim Ireland Teachers and Coaches. Sessions involve stretching, aerobic, resistance, cardiovascular and balance exercises. Swimmin’ Women participants receive information on peri-menopause and menopause and their relationship with aquatics. Swimming goodies, informational pamphlets and access to informational sessions with Women’s Health Specialists are all included!
