Coaching & Mentoring Programme
The Women in Sport (WIS) Coaching & Mentoring Programme was launched by Swim Ireland in 2018, funded by Sport Ireland. The aim of the programme is to address the lack of female coaching across Irish aquatics.
Since its launch, 146 candidates have completed coaching qualifications and gender parity has been achieved within Level 1 and 2 Swim Coaching. Further work is to be carried within Level 3 Swim Coaching and Level 1 and 2 Diving and Water Polo.
Each course involves a blend of online training and classroom / pool elements. Places are distributed via an application process, successful candidates will receive a discounted course fee, along with mentoring opportunities post course.
As places become available on Level 3 Swim Coaching, Level 1 and 2 Diving and Water Polo, they will be posted here on this webpage! Upcoming courses include;

Women in Sport Leadership Programme
The Swim Ireland WIS Leadership Programme (2022 winner of the “Best Initiative to Promote Women in Sport and Physical Activity” at Irish Sport Industry Awards) is returning this September!
- The course commences Wednesday September 20th,
- Sessions take place every Wednesday from 7-8.30pm with 5 weeks of online sessions and a final in person session on Sunday October 22nd at the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus (11am-2.30pm)
- The programme is specifically designed for female leaders (Committee Members, Athletes, Officials and other volunteers) within your Club to help develop them in their role.
- Those applying should already be in a leadership position or seeking to pursue one soon.
- Over the six weeks candidates will cover various modules vital to leading in sport; Leadership and Values, Networking and Collaboration, Handling Challenging Situations and Developing Resilience, Crisis Management, Influencing in leadership, Communications and Developing Your Personal Brand, Governance in Sport, Change Management
- Weekly influential speakers working in the upper echelons of sport will make guest appearances to share their insights and key learnings.
- Places are awarded via application process with successful candidates receiving a heavily subsidised course fee of €100 (usually €750).
