Swim Ireland Profile Access
Swim Ireland Coaches will build on the knowledge and skills provided by Swim Ireland Teachers.
Responsibilities will include further cultivating and refining performance in the respective aquatic discipline.
This includes non-competitive, competitive and elite performance in line with Long Term Athlete Development.
This course is designed to introduce the knowledge, skills and practices for the safe, ethical and effective support of coaching sessions.

- Minimum age to attend this courses is 15 years old

This course builds on the knowledge, skills and practices developed at Level 1 and will introduce additional further principles surrounding sport science in relation to the aquatic environment.

The Level 3 Coaching qualification will ensure coaches have the skills to work with competitive and elite performers in line with Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) across all elements of water based and land based training activities.
Attendees will also develop the skills to identify when athletes require additional input from support professionals and how to access this.
Course Content
- Planning, preparing and delivering long-term coaching plans

- Managing a coaching programme
- How to lead a team of Level 1 Assistant Coaches and Level 2 Coaches
- developing and adapting coaching style to implement effective coaching practices
- Implementing elements of nutrition, psychology, strength and conditioning, biomechanics and physiology into long-term plans within a club environment

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is an essential element of being a successful Swimming Coach. It is vital to keep up to date with the most current practices and thinking in relation to swimming and aquatics.
CPD helps with career progression and advancement, broadening your knowledge and equipping you with the skills to specialise in specific areas.
It also provides confidence and credibility by ensuring the professional standard of Swim Ireland qualifications are at a consistently high level.
The Register of Aquatic Professionals (RAP) replaced the traditional Coach/ Teacher Licensing from 1 January 2024.
Swim Ireland qualified coaches and teachers will renew their position on the Register each year on a calendar basis (1 January – 31 December).
RAP recognises the professional nature of the qualifications gained by Swim Ireland coaches and teachers, along with the ongoing development through CPD and maintaining of the Vetting/ Access NI and Safeguarding requirements.
Coaches and Teachers can opt-in to being publicly featured on the Register of Aquatic Professionals on Swim Ireland website, to support employment and other engagement opportunities.
Coaches/ Teachers are required to maintain active vetting and safeguarding credentials.
