A strong Irish team of eight swimmers will compete in the 2023 LEN European Junior Open Water Championships in Corfu, Greece.

Renowned for its picturesque backdrop and stunning coastal shorelines, the island of Corfu will play host to the 2023 European Junior Open Water Championships from Friday, 29 September – Sunday 1 October. Eight Irish athletes will step foot on the pontoon in Corfu to represent their county on the international stage alongside some of the best marathon junior swimmers in Europe, all of whom are vying for meal success in their age category.

Glenalbyn man, Sean Donnellan and Denis O’Brien of National Centre (Limerick) will experience the international stage for the second time this year, both athletes recently representing Team Ireland this summer at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Maribor, Slovenia. National Centre (Limerick) swimmer, Daragh Horgan will line up beside his Irish teammates Donnellan and O’ Brien to swim the Men’s 7.5km race (Age 16-17) on the opening day of competition.

Jessica Purcell, representing Aer Lingus SC will take to the international stage for the Women’s 5km event (Age 14-15), taking place on Friday. Ian Middleton of Glenalbyn will also cover the same distance in the Men’s Category on the same day.

Ronan Fahey, representing Trojan SC, will compete in the Men’s 10km race on Saturday (Age 18-19), joining Fahey on the pontoon will be Ben Moran of Aer Lingus. Representing National Centre (Limerick), Ella Carroll will also compete in the respected Women’s event on Saturday.
