2023-24 National Programme Announcement

The 2023-2024 iteration of Swim Ireland’s National Programme boasts 56 athletes who have been identified in three cohorts for additional support and performance-based resourcing through to the 2024 Olympic Trials. A Performance (PE) group (with sights on Paris 2024), and a Performance Transition (PT) and a Performance Pathway (PP) group (with aspirations geared more towards Los Angeles 2028) will be provided with tiered support through international competition, onshore and offshore training camps and appropriate levels of performance support to aid home programme coach planning and delivery through to May of next year.

The first Camp of the season was undertaken early in November, for the PT and PP athletes on the Programme, Led by the National Performance Director Jon Rudd and Head of Performance Pathways & Operations Andrew Reid, the athletes enjoyed 3 days of challenging training, informative group sessions, and educational gym sessions in the excellent facilities on the Sport Ireland Campus.

Rudd said “The National Programme is a cream of the crop list of Irish swimming for both now and the future; you would expect that in the majority of cases our National Teams going forwards will come from this group of athletes, but that’s not to say that some late developers and athletes that had off-seasons won’t add themselves to this in 12 months’ time. It is always a rewarding experience when we get these young people together under one roof, and the recent camp in Dublin absolutely underlined that for us”.
