Ireland’s Ciara McGing has placed 26th overall in the preliminaries of the Platform (10M) at the World Aquatics Championships, missing out on a semi-final spot and opportunity of assuring a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
An error in the 22-year-old’s third dive saw her score just 28 points for a reverse 2 ½ somersaults, and ultimately cost her a place in the semi-final, with just 20 points excluding her from the required top-eighteen slots.
McGing’s highest scores came from her final two dives, where she scored 62.40 points for a back 2 ½ somersaults, 1 ½ twists and 58 points for a back two and a half somersaults.
Jake Passmore will be the next Irish athlete in action when he takes to the 3M Springboard on Tuesday morning.
Just 18-years-of age, Passmore made his senior World debut in Fukuoka in 2023, finishing in 45th position overall. The World junior silver medallist will be looking to improve on that position to secure a top eighteen place and be in with a chance to make the final (top 12), where Paris 2024 qualification is on the line.
Seventy-one men will line up for the preliminaries, with the event set to take close to six hours to complete.
