Brydan Bryne last night qualified for the Boy’s 200m Backstroke Final at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Maribor, Slovenia.

Bryne, the sole swimmer in action for Team Ireland yesterday, advanced from the morning heat with a time of 2:07.00 to make it back for semi-final. The Bangor swimmer qualified for a place in tonight’s final with a 7th place finish, going almost a second quicker (2:06.86) than his morning swim.

Commenting afterwards he said,

“From this morning I got quite tired on the second 100m and for the semi-final I had to try focus on taking it more comfortably on the first 100m and then going for it on the second 100m. I think I did that quite well, I tried to focus on my technique keeping it nice and smooth and then just going for it really.”

Brydan Byrne will return to the blocks for tonight’s Boy’s 200 Backstroke Final will take place today at 17:39 (IRE). There is mother busy day in store for Team Ireland with all six swimmers competing on the penultimate day for swimming at the competition.
